Celebrating 15 years of North State Parent!

In October 2008, North State Parent Magazine celebrated 15 years of serving families in Butte, Shasta, Tehama & Southern Siskiyou County. Originally named Shasta Parent, the goal of the magazine remains the same: to nurture and encourage the powerful bond of 'family' through topics of interest to parents, guardians of children, and to those who work with children.

Families and local businesses have always found a welcoming place to connect through North State Parent advertisements, family events calendar, family resource guide and webpages, and editorial. Stories are shared, lessons are learned, and a sense of community has developed and continues to grow, one page at a time.

In the early days we started with a circulation of 10,000 copies. Since then our distribution has grown to make North State Parent the only monthly regional publication to currently distribute 19,000 copies, including to ten major grocery markets in the North State region.

North State Parent has a current staff of nine, with a total of 24 children, 9 grandchildren, 15 dogs, 9 cats, 6 fish, 1 snake, 1 leopard gecko and 1 stealth gopher.

North State Parent’s Dollars for Books/Teacher of the Month program began on April 2006. So far there have been 25 teachers honored and $5,9000 given to North State school libraries.
