April’s special teacher, Linda Leen, was nominated by her third-grade student at Sierra View Elementary, Brennah Solley, who writes: “I like my teacher, Mrs. Leen, because she is fun and also lets my class cook every Friday. We have Fun Friday and she picks the coolest games. My teacher is nice because she also lets us do fun projects.”

Mrs. Leen moved from Phoenix to Chico in 1981. She has taught for Sierra View Elementary for 11 years, first substituting, then full-time for five years teachng grades one through three. She says, "My whole philosophy is: ‘Make learning fun.' Before they can learn, they have to have fun." Surprised to be nominated, Mrs. Leen says teachers are lucky because kids give them hugs. "Teachers get to have sunshine every day."

North State Parent is proud to introduce our Teacher of the Month / Dollars for Books Program. Each month, we will partner with a local business sponsor, our effort to enhance literacy in our schools. Elementary and middle school children of the counties we serve are invited to nominate their teacher with a written essay of 50 words or less on why the teacher deserves recognition.

Each month's winning teacher and essayist will receive a Free Pizza and $200 to purchase school library books selected by the Teacher of the Month. North State Parent Magazine will feature their photograph and that of the sponsoring business in the issue.

Contact us today to partner with us and become a Dollars for Books business sponsor. A $200 check will be presented to the school on your behalf, and each book purchased will include a name plate imprinted with North State Parent and your business name. With some public school libraries receiving just 70 cents per child from the state each year, they can use our help. For years to come, our community will be reminded of the impact your business has made toward promoting literacy in our schools.

New Autos, Inc. of Chico is proud to sponsor this month's Teacher of the Month / Dollars for Books Program. New Autos, Inc. is the North State auto buyer's alternative to new car dealerships, offering wholesale prices and fast access to any new vehicle they choose.
Teacher of the Month Linda Leen of Sierra View Elementary joins North State Parent in thanking New Autos, Inc. and President Bernie Knaus for their support.

As the father of Megan, 10, and Taylor, 7, Knaus says: "We are blessed to have so many great teachers in public schools in the North State who are providing a tremendous learning environment for our kids. As a parent, I‘m happy to help out the local schools any way I can; as a business owner, I think it is of the utmost importance that we give back to our community."

In 1985, Bernie Knaus came to Chico from Escondido. As a senior and Chico State Business major, Knaus founded NAVEX, North American Vehicle Export, in 1989, buying autos at the world's lowest prices and shipping to dealerships in 14 countries. Three years ago, New Autos Inc., a subsidiary of NAXEX, began offering its' buying service to the public. Word of mouth from happy customers has made for rapid growth for this Northstate company.

Today, the knowledgeable, non-biased team at New Autos, Inc. takes the stress and hassle out of new-car buying, while saving money for their North State clients. "We go out of our way to make sure the customer experience is absolutely phenomenal," says Knaus.
