art_0908_dfb2_large.jpgMy teacher is cool, writes Jasmine Wusstig about her fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Dana Dittman.  "She knows mostly everything.  I can't keep up.  If you asked her one question, I bet you a thousand dollars she will get it right."  Jasmine, of Juniper School in Redding, also says that she likes how Mrs. Dittman teaches math, because she goes slowly so everyone can understand, and she gives a lot of examples.

$5,900 Donated to Local School Libraries

Join other businesses in supporting literacy in the North State.

dfb_about_3.pngNorth State Parent magazine along with concerned local business partners has donated $5,900 for local school libraries in the past two years. We would like to increase that number.

Do you realize that many local school libraries receive 70 cents or less per child per year to purchase new books?

As a business that supports literacy for youth we strongly feel that our school libraries need more help.

To help address this issue, we here at North State Parent (with the support of many North State businesses) have created the Teacher of the Month/Dollars for Books Program.

Thank You To Our Past Participating Partners!

We are now expanding that program. By participating in the Dollars for Books Program your business can help sponsor a Teacher of the month in the community of your choice, this teacher will be selected on the basis of student essays, and his/her school library will receive a check for $500 (was $200 when the program began) for new library books in your name. Please call us for details 800-500-6747 or (530) 926-1287.

dfb_about_1.png

Each month, a local business joins North State Parent in sponsoring the Teacher of the Month / Dollars for Books Program, our effort to enhance literacy in local schools. We invite elementary and middle-school students of the counties we serve to submit a hand-written essay of up to 50 words on why their teacher is special. Each issue of North State Parent features photos of that month's winning teacher and student, and the business sponsor.

gecko_small.gifHey Kids, is your Teacher really cool?

Does he or she have a special talent or unique way of teaching? Should your teacher be rewarded for a job well done? Then let us know in 50 words or less why your teacher should be Teacher of the Month! If your teacher is selected, your school library will receive $500 (used to be $200!) for purchasing books to be selected by your techer, and both of your pictures will appear in North State Parent Magazine. Rules: Teachers can be nominated by more than 1 student, but they can only win once! One entry per student, per month. Enter today!
